The following lists contain names and links to Doctors, Surgeons, Hospitals and Clinics providing different treatment options for Dupuytren’s and Ledderhose disease. These lists are not exclusive, just those that we are aware of.

DUPUYTREN’S DISEASE

Surgery (fasciectomy)

Fasciectomy is available in most hospitals with an orthopedic or plastic surgery department. It is always good to make sure the surgeon is a member of the BSSH, which can be checked online. The list of surgeons and hospitals we have is by no means exclusive or an endorsement of any hospital or surgeon. A lot of places listed will offer more treatments than the one we have them listed under.

Hand clinics

These clinics are likely to offer a range of treatments.

Bath, Reading, London – several hospitals – Donald Sammut performes needle release and open surgery, also for difficult and recurring cases.

The Pulvertaft Hand Clinic in Derby, with Chris Bainbridge , Peter Russell, Dan Armstrong and the rest of the staff.

Sheffield NHS hospital has a specialised hand centre where Ms Kelly, Ms Gill Rose and others perform surgery , PNF and collagenase injections.

Oxford University Hand and Wrist Service with Mr H Giele and other specialist surgeons perform PNF and other treatments for Dupuytren’s (surgery, collagenase)

The London Hand Clinic offers fasciectomy and collagenase injections.

The BMI Hand and Wrist teams, currently running clinics all over the country.

Many Spire hospitals run hand-and wrist clinics all over the country

Wrightington Hospital in Lancashire has a hand- and upper limb unit with specialists such as Mr I Trail and Mr M Hayton.

Blackburn, Clitheroe and Preston in North West England, in the Lancashire Hand Clinic Mr Fizan Younis offers collagenase, limited fasciectomy and dermofasciectomy to Dupuytren patients.

These specialise in Dupuytren’s treatment but don’t run specific hand clinics:

Mr Kelly is a consultant orthopaedic hand surgeon in Shrewsbury who  performs surgery on mild and advanced cases of Dupuytren’s  contracture, and tries to safe the fingers function where possible.  He works NHS and private.

In Salford and Manchester Mr Zaf Naqui offers needle release, collagenase and surgery for Dupuytren’s Disease.

Mr Nicholas Neal works in the University Hospital of North Midlands and has a special interest in Dupuytren’s Disease.

Mr Prash Jesudason is a hand surgeon in North Wales with considerable experience in  treating Dupuytren’s contracture.

University College London Hospital runs a Xiapex clinic and offers a range of surgical options, Ms Anthea Davy.

Ms Louisa Banks is a consultant in Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales. She performs fasciectomy, dermofasciectomy, needle aponeurotomy and collagenase.

Mr Harry Belcher provides Collagenase injections in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

Mr. Daniel Brown Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based at Spire Liverpool Hospital. He performs all aspects of hand and wrist Surgery as well as outpatient procedures including Xiapex injections.

Mr Graham Cheung is a hand specialist in the Liverpool Spire who treats Dupuytren’s patients.

Professor Joseph Dias is a Professor of Hand and Orthopaedic Surgery in Leicester.

In Norfolk and Norwich Mr Adrian Chojnowski , Mr Peter Chapman and  Ms Claire Edwards have a special interest in treating Dupuytren’s.

Mr. Mike Hayton is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon providing Surgery Needle Release and Collagenase treatment in the Liverpool, Manchester and Chester area.

In Liverpool  Mr Irfan U Khan performs limited fasciectomy for Dupuytren’s.

Mr. Dalvi Humzah provides Collagenase injections in the Midlands.

Mr Philip Sauvé is an Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Portsmouth area, who performs Dupuytren’s Contracture release including minimally invasive techniques (Needle Aponeurotomy or percutaneous needle fasciotomy).

Ms Effie Katsarma is a plastic surgeon working in Chelsea and Westminster  hospital and treats mainly Dupuytren’s but also Ledderhose.

The Dupuytren’s Practice, Dr. Richard Shaffer offers only private radiotherapy treatment but a good choice of clinics throughout England, amongst which: Guildford (both at Royal Surrey  Hospital and at Mount Alvernia Hospital), Southampton, Portsmouth,  Elstree (North London), Wimbledon (South London), Birmingham,  Nottingham, Milton Keynes, Oxford. Cancer Centre London have Dupuytren’s specialists based in Wimbledon, London. Dr John Glees and his team provide the treatment, mainly private. They also treat Peyronie’s patients and Ledderhose.

Royal Devon and Exeter Oncology centre, (Dr. Andrew Goodman). This hospital provides radiotherapy treatment for Dupuytren’s on the NHS for those with a GP referral.

In Middlesbrough in the James Cook University Hospital Dr Hans van der Voet has treated a DD patient on the NHS.

Poole Hospital, (Dr Robert Perrick Crellin). This Hospital was the first in the UK to provide radiotherapy for Dupuytren’s on the NHS, and still treats patients, though no longer on the NHS.

The Christie Hospital in Manchester. Dr James Wylie has an interest in the treatment of Dupuytren’s Disease with radiotherapy and in some cases treatment on the NHS can be arranged after referral and if NHS funding has been assured.

In the Royal Preston Hospital Dr Graham Read performs radiotherapy on Ledderhose patients, and  Dupuytren Disease as well, on the NHS after referral from a podiatrist or hand surgeon, or GP.

Guy’s hospital in London, Mr Morris is happy to treat patients on the NHS.

Southend University Hospital Dr Krishnaswamy Madhavan treats Dupuytren’s and Ledderhose after NHS referral (GP referral is enough).

Colchester General hospital Dr Vivienne Loo is able to treat NHS (after referral by a hand surgeon such as Mr Matthew Hynes) or private patients for early Dupuytren’s Disease and now also accepts NHS referrals from other areas of the country after referral from a hand surgeon.

In North Staffordshire Professor Murray Brunt treats Dupuytrens and Ledderhose patients on the NHS in Keele University Hospital of North Staffordshireand private in Nuffield Health Hospital, mainly referrals from Stoke or Stafford Hand clinics.

In Bristol is a private radiotherapy centre in the Spire Hospital where Dr Peter Falk provides radiotherapy to Dupuytren’s and Ledderhose patients. The Nuffield Health Cambridge Cancer Care Radiotherapy department offers radiotherapy for Ledderhose ( and presumably Dupuytren’s too), mainly private but they accept NHS referrals as well.

University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre in London offers radiotherapy for Ledderhose (and presumably Dupuytren’s as well).

 

In Ireland radiotherapy for Dupuytren’s is performed by Prof Frank Sullivan in Galway.

Xiapex

Xiapex has not been approved by NICE yet, so it is up to individual trusts to accept it or not. As far as we know it has been accepted for use in: Wales,Scotland, Devon (including Cornwall Plymouth Torbay Scilly), North-East England, Birmingham, Derby, Wrightington Wigan and Leigh, Pan-Mersey ( including Southport, Ormskirk and West Lancashire), Bedford and Luton, Blackburn and Darwen, Kent Surrey and Sussex, and Suffolk.
There are restrictions as to which patient is eligible, and these vary per PCT.
Cambridgeshire has not accepted the use of Collagenase on the NHS.

Massage and physiotherapy

Stephen Jeffrey in Ealing offers massage and physiotherapy to help recude the pain and muscle spasms in Dupuytren’s patients, and aims to increase the range of movement in the affected hand and fingers.

Chris Green in Wigan follows Stephen Jeffrey’s protocol and adjusts it as necessary for the individual patient.

Prof  Tim Briggs in Stanmore, Middlesex offers surgery for plantar fibroma’s as well as being willing to discuss referral for radiotherapy.
